Overview of Programs and Services

Youth Opportunities offers a variety of family-centered mental health services to children and youth.  These services are tailored to each child's and family's specific needs and schedules.  Services are offered in a variety of settings: in office, in the family's home, or in other community locations as best fits the family's needs.

Structured Day Programs
A Structured Day program (often called "Day Treatment") is a mental-health service delivered in a highly structured group setting.  In partnership with local school systems, Youth Opportunities operates an array of day-treatment programs for students with mental-health problems that interfere with their ability to function successfully in regular school classrooms or day-cares.  Our day-treatment programs serve ages pre-k to 18 years of age.

Clinical Assessments
When children and adolescents show signs of possible mental-health problems, the first thing that's needed is a clinical assessment, designed to identify precisely what the problems are and what's causing them.  At Youth Opportunities, clinical assessments are carried out by highly qualified mental-health professionals, using a variety of evidence-based methods such as diagnostic interviews and rating scales for symptoms or behaviors.

Psychiatric Services
In unusual or difficult cases, or where the initial clinical assessment indicates that medication may help, we arrange for a psychiatric consultation/evaluation, conducted by an M.D. who specializes in child/adolescent mental-health.  If the psychiatrist determines that the use of medication is warranted, he/she can prescribe it and monitor its effects (a service called medication management).

Intensive In Home
Intensive In-Home therapy frames a two-month process with a team of mental-health professionals.  This is a highly intensive service, delivered by a three-person team, that is designed to help diffuse crises, stabilize the living situation of the youth, and avert the need for more restrictive services.

Outpatient Therapy
Our licensed therapist work with children and adolescents who have a mental health diagnoses and present with such issues as anger, discipline problems, attention deficit and hyperactivity, anxiety, depression, psychotic symptomatology, pervasive developmental disorders, eating disorders, and post-traumatic stress, among other concerns. Therapy session may be provided in individual, group and/or family sessions.
